ENGAGE IN SYSTEM-WIDE STRATEGIC PLANNING AND STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT
The School Board should undertake a focused and comprehensive system-wide strategic planning process that engages schools, parents and the community at large to improve student achievement. Stakeholders should be provided with meaningful opportunities for input on district-wide policy decisions. The strategic planning process should be transparent; stakeholders should accept (and understand) the process and the rationale behind the strategic plan. The School Board must ensure that accurate and up-to-date information is easily accessible and made available to all those who need it during the planning process.
The Pledge: School Board members must implement a formal Strategic Planning Policy that requires:
(1) A structured process for collecting, monitoring and sharing student and demographic data with stakeholders for the purpose of identifying service gaps and student needs;
(2) Projected long-term needs and provision for the right number and types of schools, as well as human capital requirements; and
(3) An on-going assessment of district-wide needs, opportunities to promote public schools, and interaction of public schools with other institutions, including the business and non-profit communities.
